I’m Gayathri Karunanayaka, a member of CILT and WiLAT Sri Lanka. I am currently employed at Spectra Logistics Pvt LTD, one of the 3rd Party Logistics and Supply Chain solutions services providers in Sri Lanka. It’s a joint venture with one of leading group of companies in Sri Lanka called Hemas and a multinational called GAC International.
When and why did you decide to become a member of CILT?
It was a coincidence. Gayani De Alwis founder and current chairperson of WiLAT Sri Lanka, invited me to join a meeting. All of a sudden I was serving as treasurer in that meeting and then it all started. Gayani inspired me to join WiLAT as well as CILT Sri Lanka.
What are the benefits of being a member of CILT?
It’s a large platform for all levels such as students, professional and industry intellectuals. It helps professionals from many sectors to create a better network and explore the industry.
What difference has been a member of CILT made to your career?
Being a CILT and especially a WiLAT member helped me to stand out loud in my career, especially helping to build my knowledge of the industry. It has been a great propeller for me to transform myself to be a better leader. Also it has helped me to build a strong network around me.

What do you think the future holds for you and CILT?
The Future is very promising for both CILT and WiLAT. CILT gives the opportunity for any individual to explore their potential, especially the sector I work in as a logistics service provider. Sri Lanka being a developing country, most of the in-house logistics solutions are currently moving out and searching for outsourced supply chain solutions. CILT will play a huge role in creating a professional pool for the growing industry.
What message would you give to someone just starting out in CILT?
Being a CILT member, the message I can give is that CILT is the greatest platform to build your network, learn best practices, learn innovations and keep in touch with current affairs in the industry. Especially young graduates who are starting off the career in Logistics are able to get more guidance and education through CILT to mould themselves to be professionals.
