Delegates at the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)’s 2016 International Convention in Montreal were able to hear Sir Peter Hendy, one of our industry’s main leaders, discuss New Ideas, New Technology and the Purpose of Transport. Hendy, who has reshaped Transport in London and who created ground breaking logistics plans for the London Olympics, is now tackling the UK’s rail infrastructure challenge

During his lunchtime presentation on Monday 9th May, Sir Peter Hendy told delegates that there aren’t many new ideas in this industry:
I’ve relentlessly copied everything I’ve seen that made sense
He went on to discuss examples from the UK bus industry, events in London on 7 July 2005 and Transport Planning during the Olympics.
There is, on the other hand, lots of new technology, as illustrated by London’s Oyster ticketing
Hendy highlighted the importance of CILT in enabling the exchange of ideas and information on innovation and technology, and in facilitating education and training
CILT is not a luxury but a necessity
