Welcoming Jan Steenberg FCILT as CILT International President
As I step into the role of President of CILT International, I want to begin by thanking our global community for the trust placed in me. I have been part of this Institute for more than thirty years, and throughout that time one thing has remained constant. CILT is at its best when we work together, stay open in our intentions and act with the interests of our members at the centre of every decision.
Over the past year we have made real progress. We committed to addressing areas that had remained unchanged for decades and the mandate given to us at Convention in China in 2024 set clear direction. We agreed to review our governance and funding model. We committed to reinvigorating the IESC and IMSC. We strengthened our financial reporting and brought greater clarity to how we operate. Alongside this, we prepared new education offerings and began to build capacity within the Secretariat so that we can support a growing and increasingly ambitious organisation.
We delivered what we said we would. That matters, because leadership relies on trust. Early in my career I learnt four simple principles that have guided me ever since:
- Care for the people around you
- Capability in how you work
- Consistency in what you deliver
- Courage to make decisions that count
As a team, we have shown all four, whether consciously or not. It has put us in a strong position for the year ahead.
Looking forward, 2026 will focus on strengthening our foundations and putting in place the tools we need for long term growth. We will continue our governance review and enable clearer pathways for member collaboration by connecting our global community. We will build on our education offerings and ensure our Secretariat has the systems and support to match the scale of our ambitions. Most importantly, we will stay committed to being an organisation that is for the members and by the members, open in how we work and united in purpose.
Our Institute has a legacy that stretches back more than a century. It has endured because we have always adapted together. I am proud to serve as President for the next stage of that journey and I look forward to working with all of you in the months ahead.
