CILT appoints Paul Macdonald CMILT as Secretary General
Appointment of Paul Macdonald as Secretary General of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, effective 1 January 2026.
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Macdonald CMILT as Secretary General with effect from 1 January 2026. In this capacity, Mr Macdonald will serve as the leading officer of the Institute, reporting to the President and overseeing the day-to-day management of the Secretariat and global operations. His remit includes ensuring robust governance, membership and education standards, and the effective delivery of CILT’s international agenda.
Mr Macdonald brings extensive senior leadership experience across transportation, logistics, supply chain, IT and finance. His previous roles include senior global positions at DHL (Global Director Finance Transformation; Global Director Controlling), executive leadership at BT plc, CFO roles at Wincanton plc, and earlier finance and operational leadership at Dairy Crest and Procter & Gamble. He holds a B.Eng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow and is a UK CIMA qualified accountant.
As Secretary General, Mr Macdonald will focus on: maintaining compliance with the Royal Charter, Byelaws and Code of Professional Conduct; upholding professional membership and education standards globally; stewarding charity governance and reporting; managing Delegation Agreements with Territorial Governing Bodies and Branches; supporting the Council of Trustees and International Council; directing Secretariat staff and key service partnerships; and facilitating successful international conventions and forums.
CILT looks forward to Mr Macdonald’s leadership in strengthening our global community, expanding partnerships with industry and education, and advancing professional excellence in logistics and transport worldwide. At the same time, Mr Macdonald will relinquish his positions as Trustee and Hon Treasurer of the Institute.
