CILT Australia’s CLOCS-A programme wins national Heavy Vehicle Safety Award
CILT International is proud to celebrate an outstanding achievement from CILT Australia following national recognition for the Construction Logistics and Community Safety Australia programme, known as CLOCS-A.
CLOCS-A received the Heavy Vehicle Safety Award at the 15th Annual Australian Road Safety Awards in Canberra. Presented by Scania, the award recognised the programme’s contribution to improving safety standards across construction logistics and heavy vehicle operations in Australia.
The achievement represents an important milestone for CILT Australia and the many industry, government and academic partners that have worked together to develop and introduce the CLOCS-A standard.
Creating safer construction logistics
Heavy vehicles play an essential role in delivering construction and infrastructure projects, but their movement around worksites, busy streets and local communities must be carefully managed.
CLOCS-A provides organisations with a consistent framework for identifying and reducing these risks. Through its accreditation programme, it supports improvements to vehicle safety, driver capability, site operations, journey planning and engagement with the communities affected by construction activity.
The programme gives transport operators, contractors, asset owners and other organisations a structured pathway through which they can assess their practices, strengthen compliance and demonstrate their commitment to responsible operations.
Accreditation recognises organisations that are prepared to look beyond minimum requirements and invest in safer vehicles, better prepared people and more effective management of construction related transport activity.
This approach is helping to improve consistency across the sector while strengthening protection for drivers, road workers, pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users.
Recognition for years of collaboration
CILT Australia has played an instrumental role in supporting and hosting the development and national rollout of CLOCS-A. The programme has been shaped through close collaboration with industry operators, contractors, infrastructure organisations, government representatives, safety specialists and academic contributors.
Karyn Welsh FCILT, National Chair of CILT Australia, described the award as recognition of the collective effort behind the programme.
This achievement reflects years of collaboration, persistence, and belief in the idea that construction logistics can be safer, more consistent, and more accountable.
She also thanked the programme’s partners, contributors and early adopters for their leadership and trust in the standard.
While the award recognises the progress already made, the CLOCS-A team sees it as further encouragement to continue expanding the programme and raising expectations for heavy vehicle safety across Australia.
