February Presidential Update
As we move further into 2026, I would like to reflect on several important developments across the Institute during February, all aligned to the direction we set at the start of this centenary year of CILT’s founding Charter in 1926.
In January, we shared our refreshed strategy, built around three pillars:
- Professional Standards
- Collaboration
- Sustainable Growth
Each pillar is underpinned by digital enablement, and this framework will continue to guide our work as we strengthen CILT for its next century.
Governance and Institutional Framework
At Langfang in 2024, the International Council Meeting gave CILT a mandate to review our Bye Laws. That review is underway. The intention is not to introduce fundamental change, but to ensure our framework reflects how we operate today. This includes practical updates such as enabling online participation and voting, alongside ensuring that our internal policies, contracts and regulatory compliance remain fully aligned. The guiding principle remains evolution, not revolution.
Strengthening Capability
Alongside this structural work, we are strengthening capability and capacity within the Secretariat. As we pursue a growth agenda, our focus is on scaling intelligently and offering better, smarter and more timely support to our branches and forums across the network.
Leadership and Oversight
Good governance also depends on strong leadership. We are currently inviting applications for the voluntary role of Honorary Treasurer and Trustee, a critical appointment as we continue to strengthen oversight and stewardship at International level. Applications remain open, and I encourage suitably experienced individuals to consider contributing in this capacity.
Professional Standards
Professional Standards remain central to our purpose. This month we have launched a new education campaign, reinforcing the value of structured learning and progression across supply chain, logistics and transportation. I encourage our global community to consider what professional development means for them, and how CILT qualifications can continue to support individuals and organisations alike.
Recognising Volunteer Leadership
We also recognise the dedication of our volunteers. Our February Volunteer of the Month, Mrs Berna ARI from CILT Türkiye, has demonstrated outstanding leadership, notably in leading the strategic cooperation between CILT Türkiye and Mercedes-Benz Türk within the “5,000 Women Drivers in 5 Years” initiative. By transforming that ambition into a structured, employment-focused model, and through her support of events, mentorship, Next Generation, WiLAT, strategy and governance activity, she exemplifies the practical impact of volunteer leadership.
As we approach International Women’s Day, such initiatives demonstrate how our network can actively enhance opportunity and representation within our profession. Read more about CILT Türkiye’s activities.
Thought Leadership Across the Network
Thought leadership remains a vital part of our role as a global professional body. The second edition of Motion magazine (December 2025) continues to showcase informed perspectives from across the CILT family, reflecting the depth and diversity of expertise we have.
Our Global Rail Expert Group (GRG) has also published a timely article on railways and the balance of supply and demand, highlighting how infrastructure, services and operations must align with real market needs to deliver economic, social and environmental value. The group is developing its programme of activity for the year ahead, with further rail-focused engagement and knowledge sharing planned within the GRG and for the wider CILT community.
Our Institute is active, engaged and forward-looking. Our responsibility continues to be, to strengthen CILT to serve the profession long into the future.
