On 24th – 27th April 2023, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Rwanda held the annual Africa Forum at the Kigali Centre in Rwanda, where seasoned professionals in the logistics, transport and supply chain industry and academia were brought together for an exciting four days of learning, networking and discussions.

With the theme of the forum focusing on “Logistics: The Engine for Sustainable Implementation of AfCFTA”, the conference saw the delivery of various papers and discourses covering current issues within the industry, focusing on the successful implementation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Joined by high profile key speakers and prominent figures within the industry, the main topics discussed throughout the event centred on:

  • Contemporary issues in global supply chains and opportunities for sustainable implementation of Africa Continental Free Trade Area. (Plenary session).
  • Modus Operandi of Africa Continental Free Trade Area: The role of logistics and transport business community in effective implementation of AfCFTA. (Plenary session).
  • The role of women in building resilient logistics and transport systems behind the successful implementation of Africa Continental Free Trade Area (WiLAT Session).
  • Leveraging technology to build resilient logistics and transport systems to drive the implementation of Africa Continental Free Trade Area. (NextGen).

Attended by over 700 delegates across 17 countries, the forum provided a welcome opportunity for collaboration and achieving the overall event objectives of building resilient continental systems of supply chains, logistics and transport that can withstand emerging global shocks on supply chain networks and to keep moving goods and services with their related information from one African country to another where they create more value.

We would like to extend a huge well done to CILT Rwanda on delivering a successful and insightful event and to thank all of the key speakers and attendees who came together from near and far to be apart of such an important event – here’s to next year!

The forum also provided a platform for the announcement of the Next Generation Africa Award (NGAA), which was launched by Chief Teete OWUSU-NORTEY, FCILT during the 2022 Africa Forum.
