When and why did you decided to become a member of CILT?
I joined CILT’s predecessor CIT about 50 years ago. A senior colleague persuaded me of the merits of joining.

What are the benefits of being a member of CILT?
The main benefit of being a member of CILT is the exposure to all sectors of transport, and members at all levels. Being a member helps your particular piece of the jigsaw to be put into context. And of course the networking opportunities are great.
What difference has being a member of CILT made to your career?
Being a CILT member has enabled me to be actively involved as a member of the New Zealand Council for over 40 years, which has made a difference to me and my career by broadening and deepening my understanding of the sector and the issues facing it.
What do you think the future holds for you and CILT?
What’s in the future for me and the Institute? Final retirement is what the future holds for me! For the Institute it will face changing requirements and opportunities for physical movement of people and freight, especially with the rise of virtual commerce. But in my view the need for physical transport will only diminish slightly
What message would you give to someone just starting out in CILT?
To someone just starting out in CILT I would say make the most of the opportunities to mix with people from other parts of logistics and transport, and other levels, and to broaden your own outlook through these connections.
